Cutaneous Foreign Body Granulomas
"Lumps" of scar tissue which form around foreign bodies under the skin or elsewhere in the body.
These are benign growths of scar tissue that are associated with
subcutaneous injecting or missed hits, where the solution has ended
up in the surrounding tissue. This residue may stay for many years
eventually leading to this condition. Many of the ingredients used
for cutting are not thought to cause this but the injection of
crushed tablets will increase the risk. Successful intravenous
injection of crushed tablets does not reduce the risk of granuloma
formation. It just changes the place in which they are found to the
lungs.
The best harm reduction advice in this case is not to inject
crushed tablets.
