Stewed apple and custard
Serves 4
Ingredients:
1 ½ oz custard powder
½ Pint semi skimmed milk
1 Oz sugar
4 Apples – peeled, cored and sliced
4 Tbsp apple or orange juice
Pinch of cinnamon (optional)
Equipment:
Scales
Chopping board
Sharp knife
2 Saucepans
Stirring spoon
Method:
Put apples, juice and cinnamon (if used) in a saucepan.
Bring to the boil and simmer gently for about 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure the apples do not stick to the bottom of the pan.
Cook until apples are soft.
Put all the milk except 2 tbsp into a saucepan and bring to simmering point.
Meanwhile add the custard powder and sugar into the reserved milk. Mix to a smooth paste.
Pour the milk into the custard paste and mix well. Pour back into the saucepan and bring to the boil, stirring continuously.
Mix the stewed apples into the custard and serve.
